Vacancy : Technical Author, Documentation Team - Bristol

Why PlayStation®?

PlayStation isn’t just the Best Place to Play — it’s also the Best Place to Work. PlayStation has thrilled gamers since 1994, when the original PlayStation was launched. Today, PlayStation is recognised as a global leader in interactive and digital entertainment.

SN Systems is a core part of Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), the organisation which manages PlayStation.

We offer a diverse, inclusive culture where every one of our employees has room to grow.

The Role

You will be joining a diverse team of a technical author and translators responsible for creating and maintaining documentation for PlayStation Developer Tools, which support PlayStation developers. As PlayStation enhances its developer support, we are transitioning to a multimedia delivery model using a GitHub DITA-based document management system.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and adaptable Technical Author to help transform our approach to technical content. In this role, you will streamline documentation by identifying reusable content and reducing editing and translation efforts, all while driving the creation and maintenance of high-quality technical documentation for optimal user experience.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in topic-based technical writing, with a good understanding of technical principles, preferably within the software industry.

The PlayStation brand falls under Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), a wholly owned subsidiary of Sony Corporation. As SN Systems is part of the Platform Experience Group at SIE, this role offers a unique opportunity to become a valued member of the PlayStation family.

We enjoy hybrid working and regular in-office collaboration.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Feature Documentation: Collaborate with developers to create comprehensive documentation for new features, ensuring clarity and accuracy.
  • Content Improvement: Update and enhance existing documentation using topic-based authoring techniques to facilitate future multimedia delivery.
  • Content Consistency: Identify and consolidate common content across various documents to maintain consistency and coherence throughout.
  • Visual Aids: Create and edit graphics and diagrams to support and enrich documentation.
  • Localisation: Ensure content is tailored for a global audience, focusing on making highly technical information easily translatable for translators.
  • Quality Assurance: Deliver high-quality documentation within tight deadlines, adhering to all standards and requirements.

What We Are Looking For

Must Have

  • GCSE English Language: Grade 7 or above (A/A+), or equivalent.
  • A good academic background is beneficial; however, the ability to demonstrate relevant experience and capabilities will be of equal merit to academia.
  • At least 5 years of topic-based technical authoring experience for global audiences, preferably in the software industry.
  • 3 years of hands-on GitHub experience.
  • Proficient in writing and editing in DITA, HTML, and CSS.
  • Excellent attention to detail, QA skills, and responsiveness in agile environments.
  • Proficient with issue tracking and internal wiki systems.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently in a hybrid setting with our diverse team and in-house developers.
  • Quick to learn new technologies.

Nice To Have

  • Experience in producing API documentation.
  • Technical qualification at degree level.
  • Strong graphic and video production/editing skills, and with the ability to produce diagrams using MS Visio.
